CONCEPT
SUMMER 2020
Welcome to Cabana, a laid-back escape where summer slows down, flip-flops come off, and a cool drink is always within reach. This trend is a vibrant celebration of the season, blending the lushness of palm fronds and tropical florals with the warmth of natural textures, such as bamboo and rattan. These organic elements lay a relaxed, inviting foundation, while breezy linen stripes, indigo-dyed textiles, and cheerful multicolor patterns layer in a dynamic mix of the classic and the eclectic. With playful embellishments and whimsical icons, Opalhouse brings the joy, infusing every corner with personality and charm. Cabana captures the effortless ease of summer. Inviting guests to create their sunny sanctuary, whether it’s a quiet corner indoors or a breezy backyard retreat.
ARTWORK
SUMMER 2020
For Summer 2020, Opalhouse’s signature magical maximalism came to life through the Cabana concept—a vibrant celebration of the season that brought the outdoors in with lush palm fronds, tropical florals, and sun-drenched fruits. Each element was thoughtfully hand-painted to convey a sense of optimism, cheer, and vibrant energy. The artwork featured loose, expressive brushwork and a saturated, joyful color palette—designed to evoke both a sense of transport and a personal connection. With every pattern, the goal was to spark delight and create an experience that felt like an easy escape to summer, full of warmth, personality, and playful charm.
DRAWINGS IN PROCREATE
For our signature tropical fruit pattern, I focused on capturing the texture and tactile quality of each fruit. Using Procreate, I built the illustrations layer by layer, selecting brushes that mimicked the look and feel of markers and colored pencils. This approach gave the artwork a hand-drawn, textural quality that brought out the natural character and warmth of the fruit.
THE FINAL PRODUCT
This collection features patterns applied across a wide range of categories, including hard and soft home goods as well as wallpaper. It was rewarding to see the designs brought to life across different formats. The project challenged my illustration skills and deepened my understanding of how artwork translates across various materials. I was especially pleased with how the colors held up across materials, remaining just as vibrant in person as they appear on screen.
