CONCEPT
SPRING + SUMMER 2021
Anchored in the summer mini-seasonal space, SunSquad is a playful, cheeky, carefree, and adventurous brand that offers an extensive product assortment. Guests will find products that are cool & affordable, ranging from pool to picnic, cooler to camping, and backyard to beach.
The joyful and colorful patterns and graphics make the brand stand out, allowing designers to put a modern twist on classic formats.
In designing the artwork portfolio for this project, I aimed to experiment with scale and shapes in unexpected ways, provide a range of patterns that allow each guest to put their personal touch, and capture a diverse range of styles, from youthful to sophisticated.
ARTWORK
SPRING + SUMMER 2021
When collaborating with the product design lead on this project, we identified the artwork as a crucial element in the summer portfolio. This included a range of fruits, bright ombres, florals, small-scale textural all-over prints, foliage, and playful iconography.
PROCESS + SKETCHES + DRAWINGS
SPRING + SUMMER 2021
In my sketchbook, I painted a variety of fruits using watercolor, graphite, and ink. My vision for the artwork was to retain some of the naturally occurring textures created using traditional drawing mediums, which would convey depth and dimension in the art.
After presenting the artwork portfolio to our leadership, we engaged in a collaborative decision-making process. Together, we decided to adopt a cleaner and more graphic approach to the overall aesthetic for the season, a decision that reflects the collective vision of our team and aims to broaden our guest appeal.
THE FINAL PRODUCT
The images shown are a small assortment of the total artwork and product development for the 2021 season. I curated it based on the most important artwork and when used in several categories.
This was a highly successful project surpassed our expectations and achieving exceptional sales results. It also garnered significant social media attention, reinforcing SunSquad's brand presence. The in-store experience was delightful and brought a much-needed splash of color.
